NORTHAMPTON SAINTS U17s 37
AYLESBURY COLTS 0
Wootton Hall Park
Satruday, February 9, 2002
The Saints U17s played Aylesbury Colts at Wootton Hall - Northamptonshire Police's HQ - on Saturday in dry and windy conditions. In a very well-contested game that belied the final result, the Saints played a good all-round game containing multi-phased passages of play. The backs particularly ran well through outside centre Ben Hoyles and fly-half Kieran Hallett, which provided an excellent target for the forwards led by captain hooker Ben Spokes. The scoring was opened by prop Ed Payne on 20 minutes following six phases of play. This was quickly followed by a try from Spokes to give Saints a 10-0 half-time lead. In the seind half, the Saints forwards began to control the ball and with the backs taking it well across the gain line, tries came at regular intervals from Payne, flanker Harry Heasman, lock Michael Orr and two more from Spokes to complete his hat-trick. Hallett converted one try but acheived a personal record by hitting the post with the three others to give a final score of 37-0. Academy staff Andy Street and Tom Davies were particularly pleased with the style and application of the young squad. Their next game will be played on one of the Franklin's Gardens practise pitches against Eastern Counties on Sunday, February 17 - KO 1pm. |
