Northampton Saints have taken delivery of a live-size sculpture of two rugby players today (Wed) and it will be on show for the first time at tonight's match against Bristol Shoguns.
The sculpture by Zack Zaltzman entitled "They Tackled The Job" features one player tackling another. It was delivered to its new home in front of the Tetley's Stand at Franklin's Gardens this afternoon.
The bronze was commissioned by the Barwell family, headed by Saints chairman Keith Barwell, to honour all those involved with the redevelopment of the ground during the last two years.
The inscription has been kept within the traditional theme of the club and complements the club's war memorial inscription that simply reads, 'They Played The Game'."
The full inscription on the new sculpture reads: "This bronze was financed by the Barwell family in recognition of all the help given to complete the stadium from fellow directors, sponsors, staff, shareholders, supporters and players."
Mr Zaltzman said: "It took 14 months to make and another five months to cast in bronze. It was quite a lengthy process. I had done some large abstract pieces before but nothing of this size."
