Former Queensland Reds and current Bristol Shoguns fly-half/full-back Shane Drahm has decided to take up an option agreement with Northampton Saints.
Drahm, aged 25, is expected to sign a contract with the club next week after Bristol were relegated from the Zurich Premiership on May 10.
Northampton Saints operations director John Steele said today: "We have had an option agreement with this player for some time and we are delighted that Shane has now chosen to exercise that option.
"It would appear that Paul Grayson's exceptional form this season will make him a certainty to go to the World Cup and we are delighted that we have someone of Shane's calibre to play at fly-half during this period and beyond."
Head coach Wayne Smith added: "With Paul Grayson and Matt Dawson looking like they will both go out to the World Cup, goal-kicking became a major issue for us with Bruce Reihana being our only recognised kicker. Shane will provide quality back up to Bruce's skills and will provide critical quality in the fly-half position that I remember only too well from his days with Queensland Reds.
"In James Brooks and Ben Russell we still have two promising fly-halves who will continue to learn their trade alongside Shane and Paul."
The 25-year-old is a British passport holder. |
