Former Northampton Saints prop Martin Hynes has been appointed by the RFU and the club as academy head coach.
Scrummaging specialist Hynes has worked with the first team and academy squads on a part-time basis during the last two years, as well as continuing his commitment to his environmental health business, Front Row Services.
The 34-year-old was interviewed for the full-time post last week and he is now currently working alongside Academy manager Andy Street, coach Brendon Ratcliffe and fitness expert Tim Exeter to prepare the young squad for full-time training with the professional players when they return to the club on July 28.
John Steele, Northampton Saints' operations director, said: "Martin has contributed a huge amount as a player and more recently as a coach to the Saints. He is in an ideal position to pass on the club values and traditions to our youth players while developing their skills and technical standards."
The players that have been invited to become a part of the Northampton Saints Academy will be officially announced next week.
Martin Hynes played 95 games for Saints between 1994 and 1999 following a six-year stint with Orrell. Born and bred in Wigan, Hynes played in the inaugural U21s international when England beat Romania 54-13 and he was a bench reserve for England throughout the 1992 Five Nations.
Hynes is married to Bernie and his two daughters called Lucy and Samantha. They live in Northampton.
