Wally thanks Saints' loyal supporters
Big thank you from Wally
Northampton Saints' new club captain Steve Thompson has sent out a message of thanks to the supporters following the tremednous atmosphere on Saturday that helped Saints on to a win against the much-favoured Toulouse.
Northampton Saints captain Steve Thompson, otherwise known as Wally by his club colleagues, has thanked supporters for the best reception the team has ever received at Franklin’s Gardens.

More than 12,000 supporters packed out the stadium to cheer Saints on to a memorable victory against double Heineken Cup champions Toulouse.

Thompson said: “I have been watching this club since I was a boy, played in the Saints youth teams, have been a professional player here for seven years and I have never received such a passionate reception. We are always saying that the Saints supporters are the best in the league, if not Europe, but they did us proud on Saturday.

“To run out as club captain for the first time and hear the roar from the crowd was just amazing. I am just so glad we were able to give them the result they deserve.

“I know 1,000 Saints supporters will also be with us out in Toulouse this weekend and I know they will do their best to create a home from home feel in what will be a far from welcoming atmosphere. We well and truly kicked a wasps’ nest on Saturday and Toulouse will be eager to get back at us

“We really do appreciate all of our supporters – both the ones that attend the games and the ones that send messages of support...and the ones that to do both. Please keep it up in the coming weeks.”
