| Northampton Saints supporters are being urged to ‘give then receive’ at this weekend’s game against Bedford Blues and Sunday’s carol concert at Franklin’s Gardens.
Give Then Receive is an idea being backed by Saints flanker Andrew Blowers to show Christmas spirit to children and the homeless in Northampton.
Blowers said: “I have been blessed with the ability to play a professional sport and our children never go without, but there are a lot of people in Northampton that do go without. My family did not have much when I was young so I know what it is like to come from nothing.”
He added: “Sometimes it is nice to give rather than to receive all the time. It is nice to give something back and help out wherever you can.”
Give Then Receive will donate old coats, tinned food and toys and games to charities in the town, including the Night Shelter and the Soup Kitchen. Collection points, Bluefish vans, will be parked outside the Rodber Suite ahead of and during Saints’ sixth round Powergen Cup match against Bedford Blues which kicks off at the earlier time of 2pm.
The collection points will also be in operation during the Christmas Carols with the Saints event being held at the ground between 6pm and 7pm. Admission is free and open to all.
Tickets are still available for Saints’ game against Bedford and it is not anticipated to be a sell-out, so tickets will be available on the day.
