Browne has played for Grenoble for the past three seasons – latterly under the tutelage of former Leicester Tigers director of rugby Dean Richards.

The 25-year-old is 6ft 5ins tall and weighs in at 17 stone. He will join Sam Harding and Ben Lewitt as the new back-row signings for the 2005/06 season.

New Zealand-born Browne is eligible to play for Ireland.

Head coach Budge Pountney said today: “Daniel has had fantastic experience playing for Grenoble and he will undoubtedly bring that experience to our squad. He has all the attributes needed for a No 8. He has the ability to off-load in the tackle; defensively, he is very strong; and he is also a good lineout option. Daniel will be a welcome member to our squad.”
