Director of rugby Budge Pountney said: “Steve has been fantastic for this club and will continue to be so. Both parties have committed to a long relationship and one that we hope will be fruitful and enjoyable.”
Thompson, who has yet to play for Saints this season as he is currently resting following the Lions tour during the summer, said: “Northampton is my home town and it is an honour to play for Northampton Saints and to pull on the jersey every week. I cannot imagine playing for another club.”
The 27-year-old, whose daughter Elsie was born in July, added: “I cannot wait to get started this season and I am grateful to Budge for giving me some time off. I feel refreshed after the Lions tour and have enjoyed getting slowly back into training.
“There have been a few changes while I have been away with the signing of some exciting new players and the extension to Franklin’s Gardens. As soon as Budge gives me the nod, I will jump at the chance to play alongside these players and to run out in front of capacity home crowd.” |
