Budge Pountney - London Irish

It is nice to actually have back to back home games for once this year and I know the players are looking forward to it. Our opponents come here with a good track record at Franklins. Looking back in the dark past I can remember that London Irish always prove to be an extremely difficult team to play against. They are physical, determined and very resilient with very good team spirit. So all in all we are in for a very difficult afternoon but an afternoon we can’t wait to get started on.

Last week saw another improvement in our performance which culminated in our first four-try bonus of the season. Once again the front five laid the platform for the backs to take advantage.

We had a few moments of hilarity at the weekend. I don’t know whether the rain had short-circuited Ben Cohen’s brain cells but his catch from a clearing kick in the field of play which he then took to the touch line to throw in a quick lineout to himself was an extraordinary piece of quick thinking. Only for the referee, touch judge, 11,500 spectators, coaches and all fellow players to see through his veil of dark magic.

The atmosphere last weekend was tremendous for all to hear. We will look to increase that with a full house - the biggest ever crowd to watch a home game at Franklin’s. So please make sure you are heard see if you can drown out the music, because we are going to crank it up this weekend to the max!

On the point about the music, I know there are some among you that do not like it very much. This is not us trying to be more razzmatazz in anyway. We are not about to go down the road of cheerleaders and kicking tees arriving on the back of a remote controlled car. This music has been selected by our players for their warm-up music.  The run-out music was selected using the same process. I think it has worked wonderfully well thus far and when you guys back it up with your singing, it sends shivers down our spines. The music is not supposed to replace you… far from it – no-one could do that. It is to complement you and to make Franklin’s Gardens an even more intimidating venue for our visitors.

Come on you Jimmies.
