Diggin to undergo scan for knee injury but Lamont fit for selection
Paul Diggin in action against Sale Sharks on Boxing Day

Academy winger Paul Diggin will undergo a scan tomorrow to assess the left knee injury he sustained during Northampton Saints’ New Year’s Day game against Bristol. Whatever the outcome, it is unlikely the 20-year-old will be fit for Saturday’s live Sky Sports game against Worcester Warriors – KO 2.45pm. However, wing Sean Lamont and prop Simon Emms have both trained today and the former is definitely available for selection.

Lamont suffered an ankle injury against Narbonne three weeks ago and Emms has returned earlier than expected from a bicep rupture he suffered in September. It was originally thought the Welshman would be out for the entire season but he returned to training last month and could be fit enough for this weekend. If he is selected for this weekend, it will be the first appearance he has made for Saints this season.

But centres David Quinlan and Rhodri Davies are likely to be out of action this weekend with hamstring and groin injuries respectively. Ben Cohen is still on the injured list following an operation to repair his broken cheekbone but may be available for next week’s European Challenge Cup game against Bristol. Prop Pat Barnard will be able to use the European games to recover from the calf strain he picked up against Sale Sharks as he is not registered to play in the tournament.
