Budge Pountney - Bristol ECC

Last week’s win at Worcester was one to savour. The conditions apparently were supposed to favour the Warriors, but it was the Saints, and in particular the pack, that laid the foundations for a good solid win. The players improved their patience and ball retention from the previous game against Bristol and have taken positive steps forward.

We have to say though, that we need to carry on backing up these performances each week and not get carried away. We need to reinforce the positives and reduce the negatives, which is something the coaches are working incredibly hard on.

Last weekend saw the comeback of two long-term injured players with Robbie Kydd and Simon Emms enjoying some time on the pitch. This made a welcome change to losing players to injury and by the looks of it we could have more players slowly making their way back. And I have to say both of them came through very well, but now will have to endure two weeks of time off due to European registration.

We welcome Bristol again today but in a different competition. It is a competition we are taking very seriously and we want to take a win here. Bristol are a tough side and we are looking forward to a hard battle.

We have included the words to the music the players run out to today, those of Vangelis’s “Conquest of Paradise”. If you wish to join in, please crack on. It’s a chance to introduce a new song to your repertoire and a chance to warm the throats up. After that, all we want to hear is “Come On You Saints” and “Oh When The Saints….” because when that really gets going, it raises hairs on the back of our necks.

Your support as always is hugely important and our performances on the pitch must improve to give you the chance to really lift the roof off this stadium, but remember you are our 16th man today.

Come on you Jimmies.
