I was very pleased for Sean and all his Scottish team mates because it went to prove that actually the only freak result for them this season has been the Welsh game! I am sure that England will produce a better performance this weekend and I am glad that Andy Robinson has refused to bow to any criticism he received about his team and has stuck to his guns and kept the same squad. This will give the players a vote of confidence for their next game against the French.
Turning to today’s league game, we face a very determined Gloucester team that are smarting as we are from their last game with a loss to their close neighbours Bath at home! They come with the reputation of a team with strength up front and a good cutting edge behind and have produced some very good performances this season.
Our last game, as you can probably remember, was very dramatic in every sense of the word. Great for TV – but not so great in terms of frustration for both teams. We again have the same referee Dave Pearson today and I am sure he is aware of how difficult this game will be.
Last weekend’s game was frustrating for everybody involved particularly the players. At times, they ripped London Irish to pieces and failed to capitalise on their dominance right at the final surge to line. They have been working extremely hard this week on their ball in contact and their rucking technique as they felt this was the biggest area of weakness form the Irish game. I am very sure we will see a vast improvement this week in both those areas.
I am glad to see that we are sold out for all our remaining league games, this really goes to show what fantastic supporters you are. In the words of Delia Smith, but with less slurring: “Let’s be having you!” Your support is crucial.
Come on you Jimmies
PS Sorry about all the phone calls, it’s cost me a fortune! Cheers, Budge
