| Leicester prop Matt Hampson seriously injured his neck while training with the England U21s squad at Franklin's Gardens last year. He is unable to move beneath his neck, needs a respirator to help him breathe and is currently being cared for at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. However, he was present at the game on Friday... and was probably delighted with the result! Hampson's former team mate and friend Matt Cornwell has also managed to raise £20,000 for the Matt Hampson Trust Fund through a sports memorabilia website - www.matthampson.co.uk - to which Bruce Reihana and Carlos Spencer both donated pairs of signed boots to last week. Further funds will also be raised at the East Midlands version of the Varsity Match, when Northampton University takes on Bedford De Montford University, at Franklin's Gardens on Monday, May 1, 2006 - KO 7.30pm. The entry fee will be £2 and all proceeds will go to Matt's fund. For further information on the Matt Hampson Trust Fund, go to the Leicester Tigers website at www.leicestertigers.com. |
