Anderson and Smith complete successful development programme
David Smith (l) and Grant Anderson (r) in the gym with Tim Exeter
First year Academy players David Smith and Grant Anderson have just completed an eight-week training cycle designed to accelerate their physical development. This has been a great success as we have seen each player added four to five kilograms to their body mass while still maintaining their low body fat percentages.

Despite a substantial bodyweight increase by following a specific strength training programme, as backs they also worked on a speed endurance development programme. This involved track sessions and technique sessions. The outcome has been strength increases in the gym coupled with speed increases on the track.

David’s lightning quick speed has been maintained during this training period, and Grant has increased his speed over 10m and over 30m and beyond.

Performance coach Tim Exeter said: "David is already very quick, but we have also seen his top speed improve. Grant, being younger, has seen a greater step forward, due to technical improvements and gains in strength.

"Both have also maintained vertical jump performance which again with the extra mass means they have improved their power to weight ratios. Furthermore, they increased their reactive jumping performance by up to 10cm and this is reflected by the improvements in their top speed sprinting.

"Both have applied themselves religiously to all of the training and recovery sessions in their programme. I am delighted for them that they are now reaping the rewards. Well done!"
