Freedom of the Borough presentation to be made to Saints on Friday
Northampton Saints is to be awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Northampton at a special ceremony this Friday.
The decision to award the Saints Honorary Freedom of the Borough was made earlier this year in recognition of the club’s contribution to the town since it was founded in 1880 and in appreciation of the outstanding services of the club’s players and officials who have won some of the highest honours in the sport.

The Mayor of Northampton Councillor Barry Massey, who will present the club with a Certificate of Freedom contained in a silver casket, said: “The Saints are a first class rugby club and a credit to our town. The Freedom of the Borough is an expression of the high esteem and regard in which the club is held and I am delighted that the council is recognising their success in this way.”

The Leader of Northampton Borough Council Cllr Phil Larratt said: "I consider this to be something of a lifetime achievement award in recognition of all that the club has done, and continues to do, to raise the profile of Northampton."

Former players Gary Pearce, Rob MacNaughton, David Elkington and Peter Sweet will attend the ceremony along with chairman Keith Barwell, president Barry Nuttall, and directors John Steele, Allan Robson, Dr Jon Raphael, Tony Hewitt and Leon Barwell, and a selction of current players, staff and sponsors.
