Robinson, who has played 30 games so far this season and is the club's leading try scorer, was the clear winner of the Player of the Season award, voted for by three-and-a-half thousand of the club's supporters. He received his award from Richard Wright from Persimmon, Mark Edwards, editor of the Chronicle and Echo, and Westley Suter from Steffans Jewellers.
Robinson's Try of the Season - also voted for by the fans - came at the start of the second half of Saints' victory at Welford Road. He received this award from Dave Smith from Pro-Cut Europe.
Robinson was stunned by the awards.
“It was a big surprise – I certainly didn’t expect to be given try of the season," he said. "I’m very happy to receive both awards and very proud to be included among the great Saints players who’ve won the award before. It’s always special to be given an award. But it’s hard because the season hasn’t been the best and that’s the most difficult thing. The way we’ve been over the last month shows that the team’s still very tight and has a lot of belief.
"That the awards are voted for by the supporters makes them even more special. The supporters front up everywhere. Whenever we come off the pitch or are walking around they want to talk and show their support or offer their condolences. Either way they’re always there. That’s good, that’s what coming over from another country is all about, to be a part of that.”
For the second year running Dylan Hartley was the recipient of the Young Player of the Season award, again voted for by the supporters, which he received from Hannah Todd from Hasmead Plc.
“I’m really surprised I won it," he said. "I think I’m the lucky one who’s been playing first team rugby so if Stephen Myler didn’t get injured and Digger had played earlier on and hadn’t got injured, who knows? If people are showing interest in me it’s obviously a good thing, isn’t it? Regardless of where we are next year, and we’ll find out this weekend, I’ll be here, doing my best to get the club back to the top of the table.”
Dr Steve Golding was awarded Clubman of the Year for his 20 years of service in the Saints' medical team. |
