At Franklin's Gardens this evening the New Zealand Maori opened their Churchill Cup  campaign with a nine-try, 59-23 victory over Canada in front of over four-and-a-half thousand fans. Scott Waldrom, Pehi Te Whare, Anthony Tahana (2), Glen Horton, Calum Bruce, Jason Kawau, Tamati Ellison and Warren Smith scored the Maori's tries with Bruce also slotting six conversions. Canada's points came via Adam Kleeberger, Mike Pyke and Aaron Carpenter tries and eight points from the boot of Bedford's James Pritchard.
