The Saints Academy kicked off the season with a 42-19 victory over Kettering's first team on Saturday afternoon.

Aided by a stream of good ball provided by the forwards, partcularly in the lineout, the backs made the most of the hot and dry conditions to score six tries. Centre Grant Anderson scored the first try of the season from a good midfield break, but the remaining scores were shared between two players - John Brake, who scored a hat-trick of tries, and David Smith, who scored two tries and six conversions.

Pictures from the match can be seen in the Photo Gallery.

Elsewhere over the weekend new Saints signing Euan Murray scored the third of Scotland's five tries in their 31-21 victory over Ireland in a World Cup warm-up match at Murrayfield. Sean Lamont also played a full part in the win, although he didn't get on the scoresheet.

It was also announced that Murray and Lamont will be joined in France by Soane Tonga'uiha, who was named in Tonga's 30-man squad. Tonga, who open their campaign against the USA on September 12th, are in England's pool and they face the reigning champions in Paris on September 28th.
