The squad features several members of the Saints Senior Academy, including 17-year-old Grant Anderson, and the majority of the summer signings – the exceptions being Chris Ashton, Euan Murray and Joe Van Niekerk, all of whom have yet to arrive at the club.

“This is my first chance to see the players in action in a game situation,” said Mallinder. “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the youngsters as I’m expecting them to play a full part throughout the season.

“In Samoa they will be up against top-class opposition and it is a fantastic opportunity for them to cut their teeth. Samoa are a physical side whose players have plenty of experience and Sunday’s game will be a good yardstick for us.”
