Saints supporters will be able to cast their eyes on the club's future this weekend. The Northampton U19s play Leicester at 4:45pm on Saturday following the London Welsh game. Then on Sunday the U16s take part in a four-team tournament on the back pitches at Franklin's Gardens.

13 members of last Saturday's Wanderers squad are eligible for the U19s and all will be involved against Leicester. Several players in Saturday's team have trained with the Saints first team squad over the summer and according to Academy Manager Rob Hunter this will help their progression immensely.

"Our U19s game against our favourite opponents Leicester will show some of the best of both clubs’ younger talent," he says. "In the Saints side are several players who have played for the Saints and Wanderers over the last month and some guys who you might not know. The side contains only four U19 players, eight JSA2 (U18) players and 10 JSA1 (17yrs) who having just come up from the U16 regional development program are already pushing the guys above them for starting places.

"Ollie Storey, Josh Clarke, Anders Morgansun, Ruari Charlesworth and Guy Michels have all impressed over the summer and we are looking forward to seeing them in action in our jersey. The pack has a familiar feel with Courtney Lawes and James Cannon at lock, the back row is from Rob Milligan, Jack Sharpe, Owen Giles, Liam Neale and George Swinburne who, despite still all being at school, have experienced Wanderers rugby already."

Sunday's tournament pitches the Saints U16 side against teams from Leeds Carnegie, Leicester Tigers and Worcester Warriors. The first game kicks off at 1:30pm and the tournament will finish at 4pm.

Action from the U16s game against the Ospreys

Academy coach Grant Seely says that such tournaments are crucial in the development of the younger players.

"The U16s are probably our strongest age group," he says. "We want to expose them to a high standard of rugby and see them be selected for England. Last season we had seven players selected for England U16. This both shows the quality we have in our system and sets the standard for this season.

"Last month the team lost narrowly a well-drilled Ospreys team who had been training all summer. We want our players to learn from that game and show what they can do against Premiership opposition.

"The vast majority of the players are from the East Midlands and will be pushing for places in the Junior Saints Academy through the year."

The tournament is free to watch and all are welcome. The Heroes Bar will be open between 11am and 1pm and from 4pm until 5pm.
