The only other international side to have played against Saints at Franklin's Gardens was the touring New Zealand side in September 1905, a match famous for much more than the 0-32 reverse Saints suffered on the night. Not only did Saints concede fewer points against the all conquering All Blacks side than all other teams, but it was apparently the first time that the legendary black, green and gold strip made it's appearance.

This time round of course, things are a bit different. OK, the All Blacks are still all conquering these days, but not a million miles away from them are the dramatically improving nation of Argentina. With many of their players now household names,not least Leinster's talismanic fly half, Contepomi, and earning a reputation in their own right, they had the temerity to defeat England in the autumn - at Twickenham no less.

With key first team players targetting next Wednesday as their return to action, the match takes on extra significance and to that end becomes far more than "just a friendly." With no games in the calendar until Harlequins come to town on February 17th, this match against a nation now in the top 6 in the World will provide not only a stern test, but also the perfect opportunity to get another game under the belt as the season moves into one of it's most critical stages.
