Firstly, a happy New Year to everyone. January is likely to be a very important month for all Saints fans and we need to perform well starting with today’s game against Worcester. So far, the Christmas holidays have been a mixture. Compare the elation of the Friday night victory against Wasps with last Wednesday’s game against Saracens. However, I suppose, that’s sport.
In January, we play Worcester today, go away to table-topping Bristol – both in the Guinness Premiership – then have two Heineken Cup games versus the Borders and Biarritz, finishing up the month with Bristol here at the Gardens. This is a tough programme. We need to get on with it and play with passion and pride to attempt to win all these games.
Now to today’s visitors, Worcester Warriors, and a big welcome to the team and their supporters to what is a huge game for both clubs. The two are sitting at the bottom and bottom but one in the league. This is a must-win game for both teams. Previous performances between the two sides give us little clue to what might be the outcome today. We have won our last three games at Sixways but lost all our games at home to this side. Sooner or later, that run must end. Worcester will be desperate today. A loss for them could leave them as much as 14 points adrift, making it a long hard winter. A victory could see them only five points behind with a lot to play for. All I can say is: “Hold on to your seats and prepare to take off!” Get behind the boys as you did for the Wasps game. Let’s have a little joy to start the New Year.
We need a lot of support for the Borders game. Subsidised coaches are being run and our first task is to make this feel like a home game with more of our supporters there than theirs. This is perfectly possible – try your best please.
Some goods news now – Bruce Reihana is back running and is now only weeks away from playing, Enjoy today’s game. Cheers, and let’s make 2007 a year to remember!
