Saints September stat attack!
By Editor
In all of the excitement of the opening weeks of the National League One season there have been one or two important statistics that have been overlooked.
Hopefully the first of many tries for these two
Try scorers Mark Hopley and Ben Lewitt

In the past two weeks Bruce Reihana has reached two significant landmarks, the second of which came with his injury-time conversion of Chris Ashton’s try against Moseley on Saturday, which was Bruce's one hundredth in a Saints shirt.

More noteworthy was the first landmark thanks to Bruce’s conversion of Ashton’s try against London Welsh two weeks ago, as this took his points tally to 600 – made up of 35 tries, 97 conversions and 79 penalties. With his try and three conversions against Moseley this now stands at 611, making Bruce the leading points scorer in the current Saints squad. All that’s missing is a drop-goal, but it’s a long season…

Congratulations too to Mark Hopley and Ben Lewitt who both scored their first league tries for the Saints against Moseley. For Lewitt it was his first try for the Northampton first team in 35 appearances (Hopley scored against Argentina last season).

The three Saints at the Rugby World Cup are all playing their full part in their respective countries’ campaigns.

Soane Tonga’uiha played for Tonga in their significant win over Samoa in Montpellier, providing the power for Epi Taione to crash over for the clinching try.

For Scotland, meanwhile, Sean Lamont and Euan Murray both played the full 80 minutes against Portugal in the Scots’ opener, although Monty couldn’t emulate his brother Rory in scoring a try. Sean will have a second chance against Romania tomorrow at Murrayfield as he has been selected, along with Murray, in the starting line-up.
