After the overwhelming success of last year's 'An Audience With...Sir Ian Botham', Northampton Saints is delighted to announce that another legend of English sport will be coming to Franklin's Gardens for a unique evening.
On March 10th, 2008, ‘An Audience With…Martin Johnson’ will give the Northampton public the opportunity to hear a true rugby legend talk about his spectacular career with England and the British and Irish Lions. The 2008 Six Nations will no doubt feature prominently as well, especially the Calcutta Cup match between Scotland and England that takes place two days before.
Johnson is best known as the captain of the 2003 Rugby World Cup winning England team. His international career spanned a decade, four years of which he led the side, and included 84 caps. Johnson was part of two Grand Slam-winning sides in 1995 and 2003 and his last cap was in the famous 20-17 victory over Australia after which he lifted the William Webb Ellis Cup in Stadium Australia.
Johnson is also the only man to lead two British and Irish Lions tours in 1997 and 2001. The 1997 tour to South Africa was one of the most successful in Lions history as the tourists won the test series against the Springboks 2-1. The 2001 series against Australia was lost to a side then considered the best in the world. Johnson also toured New Zealand with the 1993 Lions. In all he won eight Lions caps in consecutive test matches.
Johnson also won a trophy or two during his club career at Leicester, who he captained for a club record eights seasons between 1997 and 2005. The 1997 Pilkington Cup was followed by four successive Premiership titles between 1999 and 2002, the inaugural Zurich Championship in 2001 and back-to-back Heineken Cups in 2001 and 2002 – the only club to do so.
Tickets are available for ‘An Audience With…Martin Johnson’ now, costing £75 +VAT per person or £750 +VAT for a table of 10 which includes a four-course meal.
