Euan Murray was a notable returnee in Saints colours during Saturday's National League One win over Rotherham Titans, having missed the previous six matches while being on Six Nations duty with Scotland.
Although nine of Saints’ 11 tries came from the backs, the 73-0 victory was founded on a dominant forward performance that time and again had the Titans’ eight backpedalling, particularly in the scrum.
After the game Murray told TVNorthants that his return to club action had been a happy one.
“It was great to be back,” he said. “To come back on a sunny day with a big crowd and score some tries was really good.
“I was really pleased with the way we performed. I don’t think we tried to play fancy rugby. We just stuck to our job, played hard, direct rugby and were good in defence. It’s great to have a clean score sheet.
“Everything’s been going well so there was a big onus for me coming in that I continued the hard work that’s been put in and I think we did very well.
“It’s good to come back and see the boys again and it’s obviously great to get a win.
Murray has now returned to Scotland to prepare for Saturday’s RBS Six Nations Calcutta Cup match against England. Although Scotland’s campaign thus far has been far from what he has wanted, Murray is looking forward to playing at a packed Murrayfield.
“It will be a special atmosphere,” he said. “It’s always something a young Scottish boy dreams of, to play England at Murrayfield, so it’ll be good next week and hopefully we’ll change what’s been happening.”
