By Editor

Town Show
Excitement is building for the Town Show, which is expected to host in the region of 50,000 people over the course of this coming Saturday and Sunday. Our contacts at the Met Office have also assured us that the weekend weather will be excellent!

The stadium timetable of displays was announced yesterday, full details of which can be seen by following this link, and the entire Franklin’s Gardens site will be packed full of fun for all the family!

Dads can cast their eye over the classic cars and motorbikes, sit in a Spitfire cockpit and try their hand at loads of different sports such as archery and wheelchair basketball.

Mums meanwhile can visit the arts and crafts marquee, learn how to pole dance or watch the displays in the main stadium.

Youngsters can have their photo taken with Fifi, Bumble, Peppa Pig and Bart Simpson, learn circus skills, watch puppet and magic shows and have their faces painted in the Children’s Marquee. There is also a children’s funfair throughout both days.

Older youngsters can face the challenge in the X-Box zone, clamber up the Army’s climbing wall, have a go at being a radio presenter in the Northants 96 virtual studio and meet Jagger and Woody, who will be presenting their Saturday show live from Franklin’s Gardens as well as hosting the Saturday evening entertainment in the main stadium.

And everyone can come face to face with something slightly more exotic in the Amphibians and Reptiles Marquee! There will be monster trucks and army tanks and a wide range of food available throughout the weekend.

The Rodber Suite bars will be open and showing the weekend’s European rugby action on the big screens. On Saturday Munster and Toulouse, two giants of the sport, come face to face in the Heineken Cup final (kick off 5pm). And on Sunday Bath and Worcester go head to head in the European Challenge Cup final at 12noon.

The Town Show gates open at 10am and entry costs just £1.50 for children and £2.50 for adults. Franklin’s Gardens is within easy walking reach of Northampton town centre and there is plenty of car parking off Edgar Mobbs Way.

From 7pm on Saturday evening the main stadium will be taken over by ‘A Tribute To Legends’, a four-hour foot-stomping run of number one hits played by some of the country’s top tribute acts, who will pay homage to The Beatles, Queen, Abba, Robbie Williams, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

Saturday’s bill also features Superfly, one of the best bands on the Northampton gigging circuit.

Then at 7:30pm on Sunday, May 25th the London Pops Orchestra and Glyn Kerslake and Helen Hobson, straight from the stages of London’s West End, will provide the backdrop to ‘That’s Entertainment!’

It’s a three-hour extravaganza of popular hits, songs from West End musicals, and classical favourites such as Pomp and Circumstance, Jerusalem and Land Of Hope and Glory and ending with a magnificent pyrotechnics display.

Tickets for both concerts cost £15 for adults and £10 for juniors and are now on sale at the Saints Ticket Office and at the Chronicle and Echo offices on Market Square. They will also be on sale at various points across the Town Show site.
