Paul Diggin, John Brake and James Cannon joined young drivers from across Northamptonshire recently to improve their motoring skills at a CarKraft Eexperience at Silverstone.
17-24 year olds from across the county took part in the skills and information day, which took place on Sunday 22nd June.
CarKraft Experience is extremely popular and places were snapped up within a few days of the details being announced. The day is organised by Northamptonshire Police and the County Council's Casualty Reduction department, with support from a number of other agencies, as part of the Casualty Reduction Strategy to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the county's roads.
Young drivers form about 10 per cent of all licence holders in Northamptonshire, but represent about 26 per cent of all driver casualties.
"Forty-three young drivers were killed or seriously injured on Northamptonshire's roads in 2006, which is clearly unacceptable and something we are trying hard to reduce," a police spokesperson said. "The main causes of the collisions revolve around inexperience, including driver error, and excess or inappropriate speed. There has also been an alarming rise in the number of young drivers being caught drink-driving.
"We are committed to reducing the unacceptable number of casualties on our roads and we hope the CarKraft Experience goes someway towards helping young drivers recognise the hazards and teaching them how to avoid them.
"Previous CarKraft Experience events have been really successful with lots of good feedback."
"CarKraft is an enjoyable day with a serious message," said Diggin. "Car safety is very important. When you're in your car you can sometimes feel over-confident, which is when mistakes and accidents can happen. I learned a lot from the day and wouls encourage young people to take part to help make our roads safer for all users."
To qualify to take part in the CarKraft Experience, drivers need to be aged between 17 and 24 years, hold a full driving licence.
