Saints rugby fans can now buy shares in Northampton Saints plc locally - thanks to a new partnership between the rugby club and local stockbroking company Cave & Sons.

Cave & Sons, who have been a strong presence in the county since they opened their first office in Northampton 102 years ago, have been chosen by the Guinness Premiership club to provide a bespoke trading facility for the company's shareholders and fans. This is as a result of the Saints delisting from the stock market and it will match people wishing to buy shares up with those wanting to sell.
"The club's initial public offering was a great success and was a major reason why we were able to redevelop Franklin's Gardens at the start of the decade," said Allan Robson, Northampton Saints chief executive. "However the board felt that listing on the PLUS market was no longer needed, and when this recommendation was ratified by the company's Annual General Meeting in September the decision was made to look for a local firm that could enable our shareholders to trade, should they wish to.
"We prefer to work with local organisations in all aspects of our business, and Cave & Sons has been a well established firm in Northampton for over a hundred years. Furthermore we have a long-standing relationship with Cave & Sons and were happy to entrench this further."
Simon Harvey, a Director of Cave & Sons said: "As the leading independent stockbroker in Northampton, we are very pleased to be offering this facility to existing shareholders and fans and wish the club every success this season."
Northampton Saints originally listed on the stock exchange nine years ago, when it raised capital to fund the first stage of the stadium redevelopment. However, since then the Company has not found it necessary to raise additional funds from the public market, so the Saints board decided in September the listing was unnecessary.
People wishing to acquire or dispose of shares in the club will need to contact Cave & Sons in the first instance. They will be asked to indicate whether they are prepared to buy or sell at an agreed price. If the order can then be matched with an opposite buy or sell instruction, the transaction will go ahead.
