On the morning of the Saints' local derby against the Tigers in the LV= Cup there were a number of local derbies being fought out on the Saints' training pitches.
Local under-15s came in their numbers to gain local pride and win the Saints under-15 tournament. It was another great display of the local rugby and showed there is some real promise in this region.
In very muddy and cold conditions the physical side of the game really came to the fore but there were still glimpses of some very skilful play and some lovely running rugby. All sides showed great commitment and put everything into it despite tiring legs and cold hands.
The final was fought out by Saints tournament first timers BBOB RFC and Kettering. Both sides had played some great rugby throughout the tournament and rightly deserved their places in this final. Kettering came out on top in the end with an 8-0 victory.
"The boys played some great stuff throughout the tournament but Kettering were very well organised and the final was a good game," said Mick Finta, the BBOB coach. "We've had an excellent day and I'm really proud of the lads."
Bill Linnell, the Kettering coach agreed.
"We've had a great day and are delighted to win," he said, adding "the guys were brilliant today, we had a game plan and the boys executed it perfectly."
