Northampton Saints are celebrating today after Robbie Kydd was called into the Scotland squad for this November's autumn internationals against Romania, the Pacific Islanders and Australia. He is one of seven uncapped players summoned by head coach Frank Hadden for training at Murrayfield next week.
Kydd, who seriously injured his knee at the start of last season, came through his rehabilitation with the club to return to form in January. Injuries to Jon Clarke and Bruce Reihana have seen the 24-year-old move into the full-back position to good effect, collecting his debut try against Bath a fortnight ago.
Saints director of rugby and former Scotland captain Budge Pountney said today: "We are all very pleased that Robbie has come back to full fitness after his horrendous knee injury. We are proud of him as a club with the way he coped with that injury, the form he has been showing this year and for his selection into the Scotland squad. It is fully deserved and I am sure he will make the most of his opportunity."
Kydd, whose father is Scottish, said: "It is every professional player's ambition to earn international honours and I am no different. I was selected for a Scotland tour two years ago but injury prevented me from taking part. I would be honoured to contribute to Scotland's performance in the autumn internationals, but before then I want to do my best for Northampton and bring all I can to the No 15 jersey, starting with Worcester this weekend."
Saints winger Sean Lamont has also been selected for the autumn internationals Scotland squad.
