Academy News Under-19s side named for Dublin curtain raiser
As has become the tradition over the past few seasons, the Under-19s sides of Leinster and the Saints will battle it out for the Aer Lingus Perpetual Trophy ahead of the final clash of pre-season between the two senior sides at Donnybrook.
The crystal vase – a trophy given to Leinster feeder club Bective Rangers in 1988, Dublin’s Millennium year – is currently in the Emerald Isle after Leinster’s win at the Gardens 12 months ago.
In 2011, however, the Saints youngsters had claimed a dramatic late victory at Donnybrook as the Dublin-Saints rivalry was renewed after 22 years and as an Academy affair for the first time.
When the teams meet again this Friday evening, the sides will again be jam-packed with youth internationals, the Saints alone naming a squad with junior representative numbers running well into double figures, many of those also playing a year or even two above age.
Several members of the squad also made their first team debut in the win over Moseley last week.
You can follow score updates from tomorrow’s clash on the Saints’ Twitter feed, with full reaction to follow later in the evening.
