Academy News Saints Under-16s go four from four
Having seen off Worcester at Franklin’s Gardens six days earlier the Saints Under-16s continued their fine start to the new season on Friday, sweeping aside Leicester, Sale and Newcastle at an Under-16 Academy festival at Broadstreet RFC.
The East Midlands derby came first up and ended in an impressive whitewash for the Saints’ EPDG youngsters, who racked up 23 unanswered points against their rivals from up the Welford Road.
Sale Sharks may have managed to breach the Saints’ whitewash in game two, but it was an equally comfortable outcome as the black, green and gold cruised to a 22-7 win. The best was saved until last, however.
The afternoon’s final game ended in a crushing 37-5 victory over their counterparts from Newcastle, a fine end to a pleasing day for Saints EPDG manager Ross Stewart.
“The boys have worked really hard over the summer and the results we have enjoyed so far show that,” Stewart commented. “The lads played really well and now head to represent their counties in good form.
“A big thanks has to go out to the parents, clubs and schools of all of the lads for the continued hard work and dedication they have shown and hopefully the players have set the tone for the season to come.”
