Match Report WANDERERS 29 FALCONS 5 Verbakel pleased with Wanderers' intent

The Wanderers eased to a five try win at the Gardens to maintain their 100 percent record for the season and while they were forced to remain patient for their points, Rob Verbakel was happy with the way the hosts performed.

"It was a tough 80 minutes and we had to put out a good performance," he told SaintsTV. "We felt like we'd dominated up to half-time and we were trying to play a good brand of footy out there. We tried to throw the ball around a bit and sometimes they sticks, sometimes they don't.

"In all it was a pretty good performance for the win."

AS IT HAPPENED

Glenn Dickson gets the action underway at the Gardens and Newcastle knock on...

4mins
Wanderers work a maul on the right and while that one ends in a knock on a penalty from the scrum is put to the corner and van Velze breaks from another maul to score. Dickson's conversion from wide hits the upright.

21mins

Bit of a disjointed affair after van Velze's opener. Wanderers seeing plenty of ball but struggling to make a telling pass stick.

24mins
Wanderers keeping it patient and after Glynn nicks the ball back from a Newcastle scrum, several phases later van Velze smashes his way over for a second of the evening. Dickson adds the extras.

HT
That's the end of a half that, despite the Wanderers leading 12-0, will have frustrated the hosts largely. They've seen plenty of ball and territory, but are just struggling to make their dominance count in the way of points.

40mins
Second half underway, McMillan and Ma'afu replacing Haywood and Denman...
WAND 12 NEWC 0

42mins: Hat-trick for van Velze! Lovely line from Waldouck carves Newcastle open and the South African pierces the remaining defenders to slide over. Successfully converted by Dickson.

44mins
We're getting pretty used to seeing this on Monday evenings - Collins blazes a trail through numerous Newcastle defenders from inside his own half and coasts beside the posts. Super try worthy of the bonus point. Dickson hits the post again!

45mins
Almost immediate response from the Falcons, Harris easing into the corner on the back of turnover ball.

60mins
Newcastle mounting some pressure but just as it looks like they're in striking distance, Woolford nicks a line out and a turnover penalty from Nutley completes the defensive job.

66mins
Collins runs it in from 60m again, this time a far more simple finish on the end of an interception. Should be game over now with the fifth try on the board.

FT
That's it, GJ van Velze's hat-trick and a second half double from Tom Collins have eased the Wanderers to a third win from three in the Aviva 'A' League. Newcastle improved after the break but hosts remained solid in defence too.
