Rugby News Saints trio to start against Wallabies

Three of the five Saints in England’s matchday 23 to face Australia will be involved from the start at Twickenham, Lee Dickson given the nod at scrum-half, Courtney Lawes in the second row and Tom Wood on the blindside for the first autumn international on Saturday afternoon.

Dylan Hartley and Ben Foden provide cover from the bench in a squad made up primarily of the summer’s tourists to Argentina and returning British and Irish Lions after their series win over Australia.

One new face is Joel Tomkins, the Saracens centre who will partner Billy Twelvetrees in midfield on his Test debut, while Marland Yarde and Billy Vunipola will make their Twickenham bows having impressed both in South America and at the start of the current Premiership campaign.

“We are looking forward to the challenge of playing Australia – they have made great strides under Ewen McKenzie and their new coaching team and they are formidable opponents,” head coach Stuart Lancaster said.

“It’s eight months since we played at our home (RBS 6 Nations v Italy) and we are looking forward to getting back there for the QBE Internationals and what is a very important series for us two years out from the World Cup.”
