Rugby News Five Saints start for England as Hartley hits 50

Dylan Hartley will win his 50th England cap against New Zealand this Saturday afternoon, the Saints skipper one of five from Franklin’s Gardens in the starting XV for the third and final autumn Test at Twickenham.

The hooker, who was named man of the match after last weekend’s 31-12 win over Argentina, is joined in the front row by Dan Cole – the tight-head’s return the only change to the starting XV that saw off the Pumas in a powerful first half.

That means Lee Dickson, Courtney Lawes and Tom Wood pick up their third starts of the series, while Ben Foden continues on the wing as the fourth most capped starter.

Hartley hits his half century having made his debut in 2008 and received the praise of Stuart Lancaster as he looked forward to the biggest game of the autumn. The England head coach is looking for a repeat of last year’s performance from the 38-21 crushing of a formidable All Blacks side – the World Champions’ only defeat in their last 32 Test outings.

“It’s a great achievement for Dylan to reach 50 caps,” Lancaster commented. “We are a young side but one that is growing with every game and it’s important to have leaders like Dylan.

“We have had some enforced changes with Alex Corbisiero and Mako Vunipola unavailable and we have been unable to consider a number of players due to short and long term injuries. But we are ready for the challenge of playing a top quality side in New Zealand and are excited about playing at Twickenham.

“The atmosphere was amazing for this game last year - the crowd made a real difference and I'm sure they can help inspire us again on Saturday."
