Rugby News L IRISH 18 SAINTS 39 Dickson happy to take points on offer
Glenn Dickson said it was important to take the points when they were on offer at the Madejski Stadium.
The Kiwi fly half kicked 24 of his team's 39 points as they recorded a second LV= Cup win in succession, which when combined with the other three sides' losses this weekend put the Saints well in control of Pool 4.
Howard Packman and Ethan Waller both grabbed the first tries of their Saints first team careers, with Ben Nutley scoring in the second half. But it was Dickson's right boot which took Saints clear time and again and he told SaintsTV that he was happy to have a shot at goal when called upon.
"Irish are a dangerous team, so whenever points are on offer it's best to take them," the former Otago pivot said. "We were able to do that today. We got a few penalties and thankfully I got then over. You've got to do that when they're on offer.
"Playing away from home is never easy, especially against a team like Irish. They move the ball really well and are hard to keep out. But we did enough and we kept the pressure on them for 70 minutes of the game, so we're happy with the win."
The Saints return to Franklin's Gardens next Saturday afternoon for a big Aviva Premiership clash with Newcastle Falcons, a game which will see the club's England contingent return home.
