Academy News Collins excited by England U20 call-up

Tom Collins is excited by his recall to the England Under-20 Elite Player Squad ahead of the upcoming Six Nations.

The 19-year-old back played in the Six Nations winning campaign last year but missed out on the Junior World Championships.

But after impressing in his outings at full back and on the wing in the Heineken Cup, Aviva Premiership and LV= Cup over the past few weeks Collins is back in the fold, and looking forward to the prospect of joining up with the rest of the squad.

“It’s been something that I’ve been aiming to try and push myself back into, and playing for my country is something I’ve wanted to achieve this season,” he commented. “It’s great to be back involved in that environment and I’m looking forward to it.

“Having a lot of people from the Saints in the squad says a lot about the club. There are a lot of young guys coming through and it’s good to see that happen here.”

In all the Saints are providing five players to the Under-20 Elite Player Squad – more than any other Aviva Premiership club – with Junior World Champions Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi and Tom Stephenson being joined by Collins, fly half Sam Olver and wing Howard Packman.

England Under-20 are also returning to Franklin’s Gardens during the upcoming Six Nations. Last season over 8,000 supporters cheered England on as they beat Italy. But with Ireland coming to town on Saturday, February 22nd the challenge will step up a few notches, and the reigning Six Nations title-holders and Junior World Champions will need all the backing they can get!

Tickets are on general sale now for either £12 or £15 for adults and £7 or £10 for juniors. To book online 24/7 just CLICK HERE and follow the straightforward instructions!
