Fixture News Tough route to Cardiff for Saints

Having qualified for the quarter finals of the Amlin Challenge Cup, the Saints will head to Sale Sharks in the last eight in April. Should they come through that challenging tie, a huge home semi-final is on the cards, hosting the winner of Stade Francais versus Harlequins.

Cardiff’s defeat at the hands of Exeter ensured the Saints’ progression on Saturday afternoon, though they faced a wait to see where they would be travelling with Round 6 fixtures concluding on Sunday.

Eventually seeded fifth as the best Heineken Cup runner up moving through to the Challenge Cup, the Saints' route to the final of a tournament they won in 2009 was confirmed by Sale ousting Brive on tries scored to finish as fourth seeds. Former Wales international Scott Quinnell and ERC chairman Jean-Pierre Lux made the semi-final draw.

The Saints have only played at Salford City Stadium once, that a 27-16 triumph in November 2012, while the two sides have never met in European competition.

That all-Aviva Premiership tie will be held on April 3/4/5/6, with the winners progressing to host a semi-final showdown with either Stade Francais or Harlequins (April 25/26/27).

The Amlin Challenge Cup final will be held at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, May 23rd, 2014.

Ticketing details for the trip to Sale will be released as soon as fixture details have been finalised and the Saints allocation has been confirmed.
