Academy News Gloucester at the Gardens crucial for Saints Under-18s
The Saints Under-18s will be looking to match their senior charges this weekend and reach the knockout stages of their competition, the Premiership Rugby Academies League, with a straight showdown against Gloucester for top spot in the Northern Conference.
Senior sides at Franklin’s Gardens have progressed in both the LV= Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup in recent weeks, while the Wanderers made the Aviva ‘A’ League final at the end of 2013. Now the Under-18s have their chance to follow suit on the main pitch at Franklin’s Gardens this Saturday, knowing victory will earn them a tie with the Southern Conference winners in the Championship game at Allianz Park.
On a three game winning streak – all with bonus points to boot – the youngsters are also undefeated at home in the Academies League, having comfortably seen off Worcester and Sale on home soil.
While that sees them sit top of the league, Gloucester are the only team to maintain a 100 percent record so far and only marginally behind the pacesetting Saints on bonus points gained, meaning another big step up in performance is needed.
Also thrown into the mix is the possibility that should Leicester win against Newcastle, the losers could drop to third, so it’s a mammoth afternoon of rugby at Franklin’s Gardens!
