Rugby News NEWCASTLE 16 SAINTS 22 Win's a win for Wilson

While the Saints were a little disappointed not to add to three first half tries at Newcastle, double try scorer James Wilson says that four more points and an 11th win in a row was a more than satisfactory return as they remained top of the Aviva Premiership.

Saints turned around 19-6 to the good, Tom Stephenson’s first senior try sandwiched by full back Wilson’s brace, but with the Falcons ramping it up a notch after the break, chances for the extra point proved hard to come by.

“The first 40 was decent,” Wilson told SaintsTV. “We were happy with that going into the changing rooms but not so happy with the second half.

“Fair play to Newcastle, they came out and played a lot better after the break and were a bit more expansive, which maybe caught us off guard a bit.

“We were disappointed not to get the bonus point but conditions were tough and we’ll take the win.

“It gives us a bit to work on ahead of next week but we’re back at home and always look forward to playing at the Gardens.”

That Premiership meeting with Gloucester is the first of back-to-back home games for the Saints and tickets are still available for the 3:15pm kick off. Book online or on your mobile by CLICKING HERE.
