Academy News Half-dozen Junior Saints help England beat Tigers

Half-a-dozen young Saints players made an already memorable week all the sweeter last Sunday as they helped England Under-18 beat Leicester.

Fresh from lifting the Premiership Rugby Academies League title last Monday at Allianz Park, Josh Peters (lock, Oundle School), Lewis Ludlam (flanker, St Joseph's College), Jacob Conner (No 8, Northampton School for Boys), Rotimi Segun (wing, Northampton School for Boys), Harry Mallinder (centre, Rugby School) and James Fish (hooker, Trent College) all joined up with the national squad to face Leicester at Welford Road.

With six out of the 33-man squad coming from Franklin's Gardens, the Saints Academy had the joint highest number of representatives from any of the Aviva Premiership clubs. And they were involved in a tight contest which went down to the last quarter.

England led 7-5 at half-time, and with a further exchange of tries after the break the score was tied at 12-all, before a late try for England proved to be the difference, the visitors running out 19-12 winners.
