Community News Line-up completed for Elite Insurance Sevens Series Finals Day
The ten teams that will compete for the 2014 Elite Insurance Sevens Series title have been confirmed following the final regional tournament held in Oxfordshire this week.
Buckingham’s Royal Latin School and Oxford’s Cherwell School will join Northampton School for Boys, Campion School, Ousedale School from Newport Pagnell, Bedford’s Lincroft School, Soham Village College, Linton Village College, St Joseph’s College from Ipswich and Suffolk’s Royal Hospital School at Franklin’s Gardens on Thursday, April 24th as the Elite Insurance Sevens Series reaches its climax.
Royal Latin School beat Cherwell School in the final of the Oxfordshire regional tournament, which was held at Sibford School near Banbury on Tuesday afternoon.
Fourteen teams from across the Oxfordshire region made the most of perfect conditions for Rugby Sevens to show off their skills, with some outstanding matches throughout the afternoon.
It is the first time that the Elite Insurance Sevens Series has been played in the county, and Sibford School’s head of PE Richard Ferley said that the support of the Saints’ elite sponsor was crucial in increasing the profile of age group Rugby Sevens in Oxfordshire.
“We’ve had teams from outside our normal area wanting to be involved,” he said. “The more experience and the more profile rugby that boys can play at this age the better. They pick up better skills, they play better players, and it improves their development.
“The backing of Elite Insurance has been huge for us. It’s meant we can improve what we do here and widen our competitions to include more teams.”
One of Northampton Saints' Elite Sponsors, Elite Insurance is dedicated to supporting youth rugby in the Eastern Counties and East Midlands, and after a successful inaugural Sevens Series in 2013 the company committed itself to a further three years of sponsorship of this unique Under-13 schools rugby competition.
