Club News Former Saints and BT Sport star to host End of Season Awards
Northampton Saints has announced that Martin Bayfield will be the host of this year’s End of Season Awards.
Now one of the faces of BT Sport’s highly-regarded coverage of the Aviva Premiership, Bayfield is also remembered in the East Midlands as one of the best locks to have played in the black, green and gold in the 1990s.
The first of the club’s professional players in 1995, Bayfield had already earned himself caps for both England and the British and Irish Lions, for whom he played on their 1993 tour of New Zealand.
He finished his career with 98 first team appearances and 31 England caps, but while he will always be remembered fondly as a rugby player, Bayfield has also carved out an excellent reputation as an after-dinner speaker and host, and the 2014 End of Season Awards will certainly be a memorable evening!
The evening will see awards handed out to the Supporters’ Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and the scorer of the Try of the Season. All three are chosen by the club’s supporters, and voting will open shortly.
The Players’ Player of the Season will also be recognised, as will those players who have passed the 50, 100 and 200-appearance mark.
Over 600 places have already been booked for the End of Season Awards Dinner, which will once again be held in a marquee on the main pitch on Monday, May 19th.
There are therefore a limited number of places remaining, so booking now is recommended to avoid any disappointment at missing out on one of the highlights of the club’s calendar.
