Academy News England Sevens call for Packman’s pace
Saints wing Howard Packman will be looking to put his ‘devastating’ running skills to good use this weekend when he links up with the England Sevens squad for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s.
The Academy speedster - who has worn the white of England at every level from Under-16 to Under-20 – made his senior Saints debut earlier this season and had an almost immediate impact, scoring on just his second start against London Irish.
Recently named in England Under-20’s squad for the IRB Junior World Championship this summer, the 18-year-old was also an Academies League champion with the Saints Under-18s’, showcasing his attacking qualities with two excellent tries in the Allianz Park final.
He was also a regular as the Wanderers reached the Aviva ‘A’ League final and would cross against Bath in that showpiece too.
England Sevens Head Coach Simon Amor believes this will be another good step in Packman’s development.
“Howard has played for a number of England teams and has been a super talent from a very young age,” Amor commented. “This is a great opportunity to get him involved in the Glasgow tournament.
“With the Junior World Championship very much in mind, this will help with his preparation and development. In training with the squad, he has proved that he is a devastating runner and we are hoping that he will not only add something to the England Sevens team but also gain a lot from the experience.”
Coverage of the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s is live on Sky Sports 3 from 10.30am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.
