Rugby News SAINTS 21 LEICESTER 20 Waller hails crowd contribution

Alex Waller praised the contribution made by the Saints fans in helping the team beat Leicester and reach a second successive Aviva Premiership semi-final.

By all accounts the atmosphere at Franklin's Gardens was better than any game that many supporters, staff and players alike can remember, with the noise common from the stands matching the intensity and physicality shown by the team on it.

As the Saints fought their way back from a 17-6 half-time deficit the decibel level grew and grew, firstly as George North crossed from close range and then raising the roof when Tom Wood crashed over for the winning try two minutes from time.

And Waller said that it was an occasion that will live long in the memory.

"It's the first time I've beaten Leicester in my professional career," Waller told SaintsTV. "It was fantastic, the boys dug deep and we came back in the second half.

"The crowd was fantastic, too. There was a real edge about the Gardens and it gave us the edge. You could hear every one of the fans and on the field it was deafening.

"It does give the boys an edge and that, and the fact that we've come so close so many times, meant that this year was our time to cross that hurdle."
