Rugby News Myler: It’s going to be another tough game this Friday

Stephen Myler says that the Saints players will have to draw on all their character and experience in Friday night’s Amlin Challenge Cup final against Bath.

While the Saints were coming from an 11-point deficit to beat Leicester in the Aviva Premiership semi-final last Friday night, Bath were at the start of a weekend without any rugby.

And although the fly half says that the memories of that Franklin’s Gardens occasion should be savoured, the squad cannot rest on its laurels, instead turning its attention to the challenges that will be posed by a Bath outfit that has impressed all season.

“It’s going to be very tough again, obviously playing against a high quality team in Bath, who have improved quite a lot this year,” Myler said. “We know what to expect from them, it’s going to be a massive occasion, we have very fond memories of the trophy winning season from 2009, and hopefully we can replicate that on Friday.

“We think that if we are on our game we are more than a match for any side and we know we need a high quality performance on Friday to get that win and hopefully we are going to do that.

“The more you play in games like that like last Friday, the Premiership final last year, Heineken Cup finals, LV= Cup finals, two teams going for it and all you want is that trophy, the more we are in those situations that more an individual and the team, the more equipped you are going to be.

“You have to draw on all your experiences as a player and as a squad and I think we have a few of those over the last few years, hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the coming weeks.”

You can hear the full interview with Stephen Myler in this week’s club podcast, which features chats with all of the winners at Monday night’s End of Season Awards Dinner and a preview of Friday night’s game with Alex King and Luther Burrell.
