Community News Saints short-listed for prestigious community award
The Saints has been short-listed for the Community Impact Award in the 2014 All Party Parliamentary Rugby Union Group Premiership Rugby Community Awards.
The award celebrates the great work Premiership Rugby clubs do in the local community across all of their programmes and will see the Saints go up against Saracens when the prizes are presented in the Members' Dining Room at the House of Commons on July 3rd.
The awards, now in their ninth year, feature four different categories: the Play Award supported by the All Party Parliamentary Rugby Union Group, the BreakThru Award supported by TNT Express, the Community Impact Award supported by Aviva and, new for 2014, the Community Champion Award, supported by Land Rover.
The Saints have been recognised for the breadth and variety of the programmes that have been delivered by head of community Sian Haynes and her team, and she is pleased to have been short-listed.
"For as long as I’ve been at the club we’ve been committed to delivering a consistently high standard of rugby-based community programmes across the region and I’m happy that we’ve been short-listed again for this award," she said. "It’s a recognition in the value, heart, pride and passion of our community work, both to the wider public and in our contribution to the Saints’ wider business model that needs all departments to help in our sustainability and longevity.
"It is certainly going to be a challenge against Saracens, whose community resources are well renowned, as is the diversity of their programmes, both inside and outside the sport. But we believe that we have the experience to showcase what we do as a group of staff and as a club whose entire history has been founded on being at the heart of the Northampton community."
