Lock forward James signed for the Saints as a highly promising product of a Leeds Academy that also nurtured Saints 2011 Young Player of the Season Calum Clark.
After 12 months in the black, green and gold there is every indication that he may well follow the lead of his team mate in fulfilling his potential at Franklin's Gardens.
Having represented England at both U16 and U18 levels, the 22-year-old introduced himself to the Franklin's Gardens crowd with a try for Leeds in the thrilling LV= Cup clash last February. That was a first senior try for a club where he also picked up the Academy Player of the Season award in 2006/07.
Following a solid first pre-season with the Saints, James made his debut in the season opener against Gloucester and his versatility, work-rate and ability to challenge for a place in either the second or back row has made him a matchday regular ever since.
Increasingly impressive towards the tail-end of the campaign, James picked up the man of the match award against Worcester, scored his first Saints try against Wasps and started in both the LV= Cup final and the Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-final
Only an untimely injury prevented his continued involvement in 2012/13.
