Scrum-half, Joel Hodgson was one of only two Saints signings for the 2014/15 season. The former Newcastle Falcons player will be competing with previous Falcon Lee Dickson, Kahn Foutali’i and Alex Day for the number nine shirt.
Considered one of Newcastle’s brightest young talents, he featured 10 times in the Premiership last season after coming through the Academy setup at Kingston Park.
Comfortable in both half-back positions, Joel will revert back to scrum-half where he represented England U18 while studying at Newcastle’s Royal Grammar School. Hodgson said that while he felt sadness at leaving his hometown club a move to the Aviva Premiership champions was something he could not turn down.
With Dickson and Foutali’i off on international duty in the Autumn and during the Six Nations there will be a window of opportunity for Hodgson to make an impact in Northampton’s Premiership and LV= Cup campaign.
