Traffic Management and Car Parking

Franklin's Gardens

Car parking and traffic management have been two of the biggest issues raised by residents of St James and the area immediately surrounding Franklin's Gardens since the stadium development was first proposed in May 2009.

The club's management is sympathetic to these concerns, and as part of the planning application will propose a post-match traffic management scheme to try and alleviate congestion in the St James and Sixfields areas of Northampton.

The club is working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Police and local residents' associations with regard to the traffic management plan, and a successful trial was carried out in April 2010.

Northampton Saints already has in excess of 1,300 car parking spaces included in the current Franklin's Gardens site. An additional 1,000 car parking spaces in the Claret Car Park on Edgar Mobbs Way have been made available to the club by Northampton Borough Council for home match days.

However residents should note that although the club will make every effort to make as many car parking spaces available on match days, and to implement schemes which will enable these car parks to be cleared as quickly as possible, the management of public highways - including the issue of cars parking on residential streets - requires the involvement of a variety of different agencies. Interested residents should also therefore be in contact with their local elected official.

The club is also working to improve alternative methods of transport to and from games, including utilising public transport options, and liaising with the appropriate authorities.
